The mesh is a universal tool for electronic control, much like the web is a universal tool for electronic information. The mesh mirrors the defining characteristics of the web, but in the context of control rather than information.
Think of social media where people create, share, and exchange information in virtual communities and networks. The equivalent in the mesh is social cyber, where people create, share, and exchange control (how things work) in virtual communities and networks.
As well as a network, the word 'mesh' invokes a dynamic world of things working cooperatively, like the interplay between machinery connected through meshing gear wheels.
One core technology does the work of many. All fundamental requirements for electronic control (hardware interoperation, networking, web access, end user customisation) are addressed in a new programming language that underpins the mesh.
The mesh takes the next logical step in IT’s migration to the cloud by putting not just data but controlling logic out there too. This allows it to automate the current manual process of creating, deploying and running programs.
Mesh software is modular, distributed across the cloud like Lego bricks that self-assemble into virtualised programs uniquely customised for each end user and application.
Programs — apps — no longer physically exist. Nothing has to be downloaded to run on a centralised smart device like a smartphone.
